How To Make Your Press-On Nails Last Longer
If you’re someone who loves getting their nails done but hates going to the nail salon and spending ridiculous prices every three weeks then this blog may be one for you. Here we will talk about the essential tips to significantly extend the lifespan of your press-on nails.
What are press-on nails?
Press-on nails are a type of artificial, painted nails that you can glue onto your natural nails. They often come in a variety of shapes, styles, designs and colours, which makes them perfect for those who would like to get their nails done but don’t have the time to go to the salon. Not to mention that a set of fully designed fake nails costs much less than a salon manicure, making them super affordable and convenient.
Press-on nails are perfect for a quick change, a special occasion, or simply keeping your nails looking fabulous without the commitment of professional appointments. Plus, with their easy application and removal, you can switch up your look as often as you like, right in the comfort of your own home!

How long will fake nails last?
Press-on nails can last anywhere from one to three weeks. This depends on the quality of the fake nails, if you’re using a good quality adhesive, and how well you apply them. Proper preparation of your natural nails, like cleaning, buffing, and ensuring they’re oil-free, plays a crucial role in how long they last. Additionally, taking care to avoid activities that may weaken the adhesive, such as prolonged water exposure or excessive force on the nails, can help make them last longer.

How do I make my press-on nails stay on longer?
Many factors come into play when making your fake nails last as long as possible. From prep to aftercare, we are going to share our top tips into making sure your press-ons last as long as possible, and in perfect condition:
1. Prep your nails properly
Proper preparation is the most important step for a long lasting manicure. Start by removing any existing nail polish from your nails and wash hands thoroughly. Use a cuticle pusher to gently push back your cuticles, and use a nail file to gently buff your nails to create a rough surface for the glue to adhere to. Be careful not to over-file.
2. Find the right fake nail size
Fake nails will have a range of nail sizes in the packs for you to choose from, so it’s up to you to ensure that you find a perfect fit. Spend time going through and laying them out in front of you, so you can easily know which nail is for which finger. If you can’t find a perfect fit from the selection of fake nails in the pack, pick the closest size to your nail and file the sides down of the press-on nail until it fits your real nail. Nails that are too wide or too narrow can be uncomfortable and won’t last long.
3. Find the best glue
The key to long-lasting fake nails is applying a good amount of high quality glue. We love the Invogue Brush on Nail Glue as it offers exceptional hold while drying quickly, saving you valuable time. We recommend applying a thin layer of glue on top of your natural nail, as well as the underside of the press-on nail. Immediately press the artificial down on your natural nail, making sure to squeeze out any air bubbles. Hold it in place for a couple of seconds to ensure it is properly bonded.
4. Keep your hands dry
Avoid soaking your hands in water for a while after applying them. Even though the glue dries instantly, it’s still best to wait at least 24 hours before doing activities where your hands will be submerged in water. Wear gloves when washing the dishes, and have a shower instead of a bath.
5. Consider shorter fake nails
While longer nails are great, they have a much larger surface area meaning they are much more likely to catch on things and accidentally pop off. With short fake nails, they are much more manageable and less likely to catch on things.
Why do my press-on nails keep popping off?
There are many reasons why your press-ons keep popping off. The most common reason is due to incorrect sizing, as they won’t stick properly and the smallest knock can create lifting. Make sure to pick the closest size to your natural nails and file them down if necessary. Properly prepare your nails before gluing them down, making sure to wash them properly and dry them properly. A weak glue can also cause them to pop off easily. Our glues are high-quality and have a super strong hold to ensure your fake nails last long.

Can fake nails be reused?
Yes, you can absolutely reuse your press-on nails! Of course, if they have been through wear and tear and are falling apart, then it’s probably best to put on a completely new set. The best part about fake nails is that you can wear them for as long as you like, meaning you can switch them out as and when you like. This makes them easy to use, and very cost effective too. If you want to reuse your press-ons, or only want to wear them for a short period of time, apply them with adhesive tabs instead of nail glue. This will make removal much easier and will enable you to remove them in one piece.
Safe way to remove your press-on nails
The easiest and safest way to remove your fake nails is to soak your nails in warm water mixed with oils or dish soap. The soap and oils will break down the nail glue and your nails should start to loosen after about 10-15 minutes of soaking. When they start to loosen, you can also use a cuticle stick to lift the press-on nail from your natural nail.
