How to Get Rid of Blackheads and Blemishes

Everyone knows the struggle of blackheads, but don’t worry we have the ultimate solution and tips on how to banish them. Follow our expert advice and try our Brushworks Blackhead and Blemish Removal Tool kit for the ultimate, clear complexion.

How are blackheads caused and what actually are they?

Blackheads are often caused when a combination of natural occurring oils, alongside dead skin cells clog hair follicles in the skin. As the skin goes through the process of shedding the oil and dead skin cells, the bacteria inside then comes into contact with oxygen at the opening of the pore, which causes it to turn black.

Our set contains the following tools:

  • Curved Extractor Tweezer: Designed to focus on the extraction of blackheads, the curved shape helps to prevent damage to the surrounding skin. With perfectly aligned precision tips, this ensures ease of use when it comes to pinching and eliminating blackheads and pimples.
  • Angled Loop: The Angled Loop tool is ideal for getting the hard to reach blackheads or spots around the nose area, where blackheads are most common and tend to cluster together. Apply light pressure to the tool and gently scrape across the area. This tool is also ideal for dislodging the more stubborn blackheads.
  • Eye Loop: The Eye Loop is ideal for extracting trapped sebum.
  • Lancet: The Lancet tool is used for puncturing the whitehead and helping to release oil from the skin and any blemishes.
  • Spoon Extractor: This tool gently applies even pressure to release any trapped sebum, ideal for stubborn blackheads. Works best when applying pressure to the skin, which will help to dislodge the blackhead.
  • Flat Loop: The Flat Loop tool is used to gently apply pressure to help extract blackheads without causing any damage. This tends to work well with larger blackheads.
  • Small Loop: A fast and simple tool to help remove whiteheads on the skin, also ideal for gently removing any remaining contents of the blackhead from the pores. Works best on smaller blackheads.

Read below for our top tips for blackhead removal, and each tool use:

  1. Cleanse the face with warm water and hold a warm cloth against the face for a few seconds. This helps to open up any pores, alternatively this can be used after a warm shower.
  2. Place the loop end of the extractor over any blackhead that you want to extract.
  3. Gently press down on one side of the blackhead & move the tool across the top, it is important to remember that you shouldn’t press straight down on top of the blackhead. The best way to extract the blackhead is to create gentle pressure from one side, and ease it out. This helps to force out the blockage as you move the tool over the top.
  4. After you have finished extraction, cleanse your skin with cool water. This helps to ensure that pores are closed, after this gently pat the skin dry and then apply toner or moisturiser.
  5. Finally, wash the tool in hot, soapy water and allow to air dry.
